Burntwood Town Council's offices at the Old Mining College Centre

The Old Mining College Centre in Chasetown could be renamed.

A meeting of Burntwood Town Council will hear proposals to rebrand the building as the “Town Hall”.

Although the change would see the link to the area’s mining heritage removed, the plan would see a blue plaque put up outlining its past.

The Edwardian red-brick building was built in 1912 as a training centre for pit apprentices.

Lichfield District Council took over the running of the site in 1998, but it has since been taken on by Burntwood Town Council and will become the authority’s new home.

At the time of the handover in September, a spokesperson said: “Members of the council are keen to see the Old Mining College Centre develop as a vibrant community hub for the town.”

The proposal will be discussed at a meeting at Burntwood Library at 7pm tonight (January 28).
