Green Party’s Chadsmead by-election candidate urges voters to ensure cuts don’t hit the vulnerable

The Green Party’s candidate for the Chadsmead by-election has urged voters to ensure community services are protected from cuts.

Adam Elsdon will contest both the Lichfield District Council and Lichfield City Council votes following the resignation of Lib Dem councillor Marion Bland due to ill health.

The former police forensics officer and military veteran is a founder member of the Greens in Lichfield and Burntwood and says he hopes to be able to make a real difference in the local community where his children will be educated.

“My priority as both a Chadsmead Councillor and a father will be to do everything in my power to help resolve the serious issues at Chadsmead Primary Academy,” he said. “The decline this school has experienced in the last three years is truly alarming.

“We must also ensure that cuts to council budgets do not punish the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society. I am standing in this by-election to be a voice for those people.”

The Green Party’s candidate also insisted he would offer an “alternative voice” in local politics.

He said: “In these times of austerity, now more than ever Chadsmead needs a representative who will fight for their interests and for the common good.”

Five candidates will contest the Lichfield District Council Chadsmead by-election:

  • Colin Ball (Labour)
  • Adam Elsdon (Greens)
  • Jan Higgins (UKIP)
  • Brian McMullan (Conservatives)
  • Paul Ray (Lib Dem)

Four candidates will contest the vacant Lichfield City Council seat:

  • Adam Elsdon (Greens)
  • Simran McMullan (Conservatives)
  • Paul Ray (Lib Dem)
  • Phil Sutcliffe (Labour)

It’s good to see there is a Green candidate. Voters now have a choice across the political spectrum.

I’m voting Green. They are the only party that hasn’t completely and utterly lost my respect!

They are also the the only party that has the sense to realise that the wellbeing of the living planet is something we take for granted at our peril.

If we want sincerity and conviction in local politics, Adam is the best one out there. He is a great candidate who will represent his ward with us at the centre.

Adam brings honesty, sincerity and life experience in spades. He would be the perfect person to represent Chadsmead. He doesn’t just SAY what he thinks needs to be done, he actually DOES what needs to be done. Leading by example….a rare thing in politics today. Good luck to him.
