Cost of sex shop licence to fall by almost half in Lichfield and Burntwood

The amount it costs for venues to hold a sex shop or sexual entertainment licence in Lichfield and Burntwood is set to drop by almost half.

Lichfield District Council’s regulatory and licensing committee will hear the proposals for the new pricing structure for the year ahead next week.

The plans would see the cost of applying for a ‘sexual entertainment venue’ or ‘sex establishment’ licence drop from £3,000 to £1,650.

Lichfield District Council confirmed that one sex shop currently holds a permit in the area, with a spokesperson adding that the fee had come down because there had been “no compliance issues and regulatory input has been limited” in the past 12 months.

Other proposed changes to the council’s licence charges would see the cost of a tattoo and ear piercing licence drop from £200 to £170, while the price of being able to breed up to 20 dogs would rise from £165 to £220.

Lichfield District Council confirmed that all fees and charges were adjusted annually based on the costs associated with issuing and maintaining licences.

The proposals will be discussed at a meeting on February 10.
