Social media skills highlighted as councillors in Lichfield and Burntwood draw up training wishlist

Councillors in Lichfield and Burntwood may soon be brushing up on their social media skills.

Lichfield District Council is currently drawing up its plans for the training of elected representatives in the coming 12 months.

So far nine councillors have requested social media, while their have been eight requests for a session on becoming an “effective ward member”.

The most requested training has been in overview and scrutiny processes, with 13 representatives putting their names forward.

There were also two requests for a “managing time effectively” session, although a report to the council’s employment committee has suggested e-learning options should be explored for this area.

“Elected members’ learning and development is a key factor in Lichfield District Council’s continuing performance as a good council,” the report added.

“A budget of £5,000 for member development has been allocated and will be used to fund learning and development in a way that meets the priority needs of the majority of members and the council.”
