Warning after residents in Lichfield and Burntwood are targeted by courier scam

People are being warned to be on their guard after a spate of so-called courier fraud in Lichfield and Burntwood.

Officers say they have received calls from people in the area saying they have received calls from someone purporting to be from the Metropolitan Police.

The man told them that their debit or credit cards had been cloned and someone had been arrested. They were then told the card was needed as evidence and that someone would be calling to collect it.

When challenged by one caller he became verbally aggressive.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “In this instance the caller claimed to be from the Met Police, but on other occasions they have said West Midlands Police.

“Fraudsters have targeted the Burntwood and Lichfield areas recently.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
