Theatre-goers at the Lichfield Garrick get the chance to support St Giles Hospice

Theatre-goers in Lichfield will get the chance to support St Giles Hospice as part of a new initiative.

The Garrick Cares campaign allows people to make a donation or purchase a ticket for young people who have family under the hospice’s care.

The aim of the link-up is to give respite to relatives of those receiving care or who have recently lost a loved one.

The theatre’s artistic director Tim Ford said: “I am truly delighted that we will be working with and supporting St Giles Hospice here at the Garrick.

“Having had a huge personnel connection with them caring for and supporting members of my own family, I understand how vital their care is to local people.

“This is the start of a wonderful relationship for us both and I am thrilled that we can play a small part in supporting them and in turn local families and young people of Lichfield.”

Ian Leech, St Giles Hospice’s community engagement manager, said the link-up would offer much-needed respite to families.

“This is an exciting partnership that is continually developing,” he said. “Young bereaved people will welcome this opportunity to enjoy the arts and we can’t thank the Garrick enough for their kind and generous support.”

A new lottery scheme is also being launched to help the Garrick deliver youth and community projects.

For every £1 received from players who join the St Giles lottery as part of the new partnership, the theatre will receive 20p.

Alison Jerram, St Giles Hospice’s lottery manager, said: “As well as benefitting both good causes, this innovative new venture will make the St Giles Hospice lottery membership accessible to more local people than ever before, which is fantastic news for everyone.”
