Sam Butcher, 21, will join a team of riders making the 1,052 mile ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End from February 27 to March 9.

Sam, who is currently studying business management at Coventry University, said: “As the set off date gets closer, I get more nervous about how big the challenge is actually going to be.

“But at the same time, I’m extremely excited to do it and have a real good go at raising money for those in need.”

Each student rider taking part is aiming to raise £1,052 – a pound for each mile they are cycling – for Sport Relief. People can support Sam via his Just Giving page.

Susan Hannam, head teacher at Lichfield Cathedral School, added: “We are incredibly proud of Sam – firstly, that he was selected to be involved in the ride, and secondly, that he continues to embody our core values of leadership and service.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Sam and we will be cheering him all the way.”
