Lib Dem councillor’s open letter to voters after by-election triumph

The victorious candidate in the Chadsmead by-election has thanked voters and his support team in an open letter.

Cllr Paul Ray retained the seats on Lichfield City Council and Lichfield District Council for the Liberal Democrats following the resignation due to ill health of Marion Bland.

Read Cllr Paul Ray’s letter below:

I am delighted to have won – and so convincingly with 44.7% and 40% of the vote in the City and District election seats respectively: a big increase in our share of the vote compared with the May 2015 elections.

The result certainly shows that the Liberal Democrats are “alive and kicking” in Lichfield and we will now use this victory as a platform to build our support further.

Lib Dems believe in community and helping people in Chadsmead with the day to day issues in their lives is key – I as a Liberal Democrat councillor will be committed to that.

Also, I would like to thank all those who voted for me and for the fantastic commitment and energy of the local Lib Dem party during the campaign.

Finally, I would like to pay tribute to Marion Bland whose resignation due to ill health led to these by-elections. Throughout the campaign a message that we received on the door-step time and time again was what an exceptional councillor Marion has been. My objective is now to serve the people of Chadsmead in the same way that Marion did so well.
