The mother of Stephen Sutton is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money in his memory.

The Burntwood teenager raised millions for the Teenage Cancer Trust as he battled the disease.

His mum Jane has now confirmed she will take on a new challenge to continue his fundraising legacy.

“I’d been invited to speak at a presentation evening at a school in Worcestershire towards the end of last year,” she explaiend. “I’d been exchanging emails with the school about the event and got chatting with a member of staff who told me how she was taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

“I thought about it for all of five minutes and, other than work, I had no other commitments, so I followed Stephen’s advice to seize every opportunity and take on the challenge.

“I find it amazing the knock-on effect of taking part in one activity and how that opens the door to another opportunity. I’ve seen it happen so many times and I know Stephen witnessed it in abundance.”

Jane’s ten day trip will take place in October.

Kate Collins, from the Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “Stephen helped reach some huge milestones for young people with cancer.

“With her continued and loyal support, Jane Sutton has ensured that her son’s legacy has lived on to help even more people going through similar experiences to Stephen.

“Through Jane’s impressive ‘can-do’ attitude and her willingness to do everything from jumping out of a plane to scaling the highest peaks, she carries on spreading Stephen’s inspiring message of positivity.”

People can donate to Jane’s fundraising climb online or you can donate £5 by texting STEPHEN to 70500.
