A Lichfield car dealership is planning to relocate to Eastern Avenue.
Tempest Ford has submitted a formal application to demolish the Naturana underwear site and replace it with a two-storey showroom building and associated valeting workshop.
The company is having to leave its current location on the junction of Birmingham Road and St John Street because of the Friarsgate redevelopment of the city centre.
In a statement supporting the planning application, Tempest Ford said: “The proposals relate to the construction of a modern car showroom operation in a prime location along Eastern Avenue.
“The current building on the site is in poor condition with extensive asbestos present.
“The proposals therefore represent an opportunity to improve the contribution this site makes to the wider character of the area.”
Tempest Ford say the new facility will allow them to have 34 rather than the current 24 on display, while they have also been granted a specialist status to service commercial as well as domestic vehicles.
The company believes the two factors could lead to an addition £30,000 in the first year and the creation of “at least two to three new jobs”.
“The relocation of Tempest Ford would enable the business to continue its present economic value and to make a further, greater contribution to the economic prosperity of Lichfield.”
Full details of the proposals can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
