Andy Cox had held the record with 535 games for The Scholars.

But he saw current captain Slater overtake him in last weekend’s win at Newcastle Town.

Cox was quick to pay tribute to the defender.

“The biggest compliment I can give Chris Slater is that he would be in my all time Chasetown XI,” said Cox.
