A Burntwood woman has been hit with a £700 bill after failing to clean up after her dog.

Teresa Collis, from Hill Street in Chasetown, was found guilty of a dog fouling offence at Stafford Magistrates Court.

The case was brought by Lichfield District Council after she was spotted not picking up her animal’s mess at Burntwood Leisure Centre last July.

Collis did not attend the hearing, but in her absence she was ordered to pay a fine of £200, costs of £482.40 and a victim surcharge of £20.

Councillor Colin Greatorex, Cabinet member for housing and health, said: “We know that keeping our streets and green spaces free of litter and dogs’ mess is extremely important to our residents and visitors.

“This case should warn all dog walkers that failing to clean up after your dog is an offence, and one that we take very seriously.”

In the last year, the council has issued 13 fines to people seen not clearing up after their dogs, and it is also prosecuting a further person for a similar offence.
