Songwriter John Tams is to become patron of the Lichfield Festival of Folk.

A member of the Albion Band and Home Service, the musician has also found fame with the National Theatre and as rifleman Daniel Hagman in the TV series Sharpe.

As a five time winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, John has also written music for drama series Jericho and the stage version of Warhorse.

The Lichfield Festival of Folk, known as L2F will take place from October 14 to 16 and feature the likes of Ciaran Algar, Greg Russell, the Blair Dunlop Band, Richard Digence and Pete Coe.

Stuart Davies, Lichfield Arts vice-president and director of L2F, said: “We are absolutely delighted that John has agreed to be patron of this year’s event.

“Everything is taking shape to make this the best year yet for this fantastic festival in the historic setting of Lichfield Guildhall.

“We are looking forward to welcoming friends old and new from across the UK.”
