People in Lichfield and Burntwood urged to register for EU referendum and Police and Crime Commissioner vote

A fresh drive has been launched to encourage residents to register for a vote in the EU referendum.

The decision on whether the UK should stay in or leave the European Union will be made on June 23.

But only those registered will be able to cast their vote.

People in Lichfield and Burntwood will also get the chance to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner on May 5.

The deadline to register is April 18.

Diane Tilley, electoral registration officer for Lichfield District Council, said: “Time is now running out to make sure you can take part in these elections, so I’d encourage everyone to take action now if they’re not already registered to vote.

“Our message is simple – you can’t vote, if you aren’t registered.”

People can register online.

Ben Brook, head of the Electoral Commission in the English regions, added: “Our research shows that young people, students and recent home movers are less likely to be registered to vote.

“If you’re not registered you won’t be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in Lichfield and Burntwood.”
