Young people helping to keep communities in Lichfield and Burntwood safer could be given a free tablet computer.

The Samsung Galaxy systems have been donated after being used as part of a bidding process for a new technology system at Staffordshire Police.

But Atos – the company which had used them – said the ten tablets did not need to be returned, instead allowing them to be handed out by Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis to 12 to 18-year-olds who are making a difference in their communities.

“This is a great opportunity to recognise and reward young people who shine in their efforts to make local communities safer,” Mr Ellis said. “These top-end tablets haven’t cost the public a penny and it is exceptionally generous of Atos to donate them.

“We’re now looking for nominations of young people who have made their area safer or a better place to live through the actions they have taken.”

Nominations of no more than 100 words must be emailed with the subject ‘TAB ACTIVE COMPETITION’ by May 31. Entries must also include names and contact details.

Adrian Gregory, chief executive officer at Atos UK and Ireland, said: “We are very happy to donate these tablets and delighted that they will be used to support, inspire and provide recognition for young people in Staffordshire.”
