Lichfield City Council will kickstart the city’s celebrations with a civic parade from the Guildhall to Minster Pool at 6.30pm on April 21.

Young people will read their own compositions at Speakers’ Corner from 7pm before the lighting of a beacon in the Memorial Gardens at 8pm as part of a series of similar events across the UK.

Refreshments will be available from Minster Hall café on Pool Walk, run by people with learning difficulties along with volunteers from the Sherratts Wood Community Interest Company.

Councillor Andrew Smith, Mayor of Lichfield, said “The city council is honoured to join with hundreds of other communities across the country in celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.

“By highlighting the contributions of local schoolchildren and the work of staff and volunteers at Minster Hall café, our celebrations will emphasise the community spirit and future potential of our city.”

The compositions delivered by the schoolchildren will also be on display on April 23.
