Lichfield councillors to attend memorial service for former Sandwell Council leader Darren Cooper

Councillors in Lichfield will attend a memorial service for the former leader of Sandwell Council.

Darren Cooper died in March, aged 52.

Today’s service (April 22) will be held in West Bromwich Town Hall.

Cllr Mike Wilcox, leader of Lichfield District Council, is among those attending along with opposition Labour group leader, Cllr Sue Woodward.

“I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with Darren,” said Cllr Wilcox at this week’s meeting of the local authority. “He was a larger than life character and his death was a big shock to us all.”

    And Sue Woodward Lichfield District Council’s Labour Group Leader and a SCC representative on the Local Government Association, working with Darren, has been invited too.
