The Walsall Senior Cup finalists got off to the perfect start as striker Tony Clarke found the net with just five minutes on the clock.

The hosts had the better of the opening half and their efforts were rewarded again as they were awarded a penalty which Dave Yonwin converted on 34 minutes.

The forward went close to a second before strike partner Clarke rounded the Cadbury keeper only to lose his footing at the crucial moment.

The second half saw the visitors given the chance to cut the deficit when they were awarded a penalty of their own. But Lichfield stopper Conor McCarthy produced a fine save to keep his side’s two goal advantage intact.

Lewis Bourne went close to adding a third for City before sub Trea Bertie rifled home to wrap up the win.

Lichfield’s league season wraps up next weekend with a trip to Racing Club Warwick. Victory would virtually guarantee Gary Birch’s men a sixth place finish in Division One of the Midland Football League.
