Agricultural land in Lichfield could be converted into a camp site complete with ‘glamping pods’.

Planning permission is being sought for a change of use for the site on Abnalls Lane.

The land has previously been used for grazing, but a change to subsidies meant it was no longer suitable.

A statement supporting the planning application said: “Although a number of unsuccessful attempts have been made to grow a crop on the land, the majority of the time it has been pasture for grazing.

“The pasture has been rented by a local farmer, supporting a maximum of 16 cows for a 16 week period. Generally, the grass did not uspport the cows for this amount of time and the farmer had to supplement the feed.

“In 2015 DEFRA amended the entitlement payments and the pasture now fall short of the area required to qualify for any subsidy. The farmer has confirmed that, should the rent increase he would not be willing to continue.

“Therefore using the land for pasture is no longer viable.”

If approved, the new use would see pitches for 20 touring tents as well a number of ‘glamping’ pods. A new shower block would also be constructed.

Full details of the proposal can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
