Chasetown FC have recruited a new player-coach as they look to push for promotion next season.

Former Coventry Sphinx boss Robbie Banks has agreed to team up with Dave Stringer once more at The Scholars Ground.

The midfielder was an influential member of Stringer’s side at previous club Rugby Town.

And he’s hoping to help Chasetown go one better than this season, where they narrowly missed out on a play-off spot.

“The move happened very quickly,” he said. “I had to step down as manager at Coventry Sphinx as I couldn’t put in the hours I knew I needed to.

“Then I had the call from Dave, he talked to me about the club, it’s aspirations and the people involved in it. I didn’t see the need to think about it for too long as it was the perfect fit.”

Banks will also be registered as a player for the club, but says the main attraction in the move was the coaching role.

He said: “Football careers don’t go on forever, but I still have aspirations to play.

“However, I was attracted to the coaching role and I am looking to develop that side now.

“I’m also well aware of how big of a club Chasetown is and playing a part in their progression up the leagues was too good of an opportunity to turn down.”

The midfielder also believes he is more than ready for the challenge of the Northern League.

He said “It’s tough, but with the players and staff onboard I’m sure we can be successful.

“It will be good to be working with Dave again. He’s a top guy on and off the field and we have very similar views on the way the game should be played.

“He really knows his football and playing under him as captain for years I know exactly what I will be joining.

“It will also be good to work alongside Cameron Stuart. We played together at Coalville and he’s a top guy in and out of football and really knows his stuff.

“I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”
