Lichfield City FC’s season of cup woe continues after they were stripped of the chance to appear in the final of the JW Hunt Cup at Molineux.
The Brownsfield Park side thought they’d booked a spot in the showpiece after seeing off Wolves Sporting in the semi-final.
But the club were found to have played an ineligible player after Jordan Kidd appeared in the win.
The defender had played for another club in the competition in the early stages last year.
Chairman Darren Leaver admitted it was a disappointing end to the season, but said it was “an honest mistake”.
“The first team secretary had checked all of the squad, but Jordan had come up from the reserves for the last couple of games so had slipped under the radar,” he said.
“It was an honest mistake on both the part of the player and the club.
“We’re obviously disappointed but understand the decision.”
The news comes after Lichfield also missed out on a Walsall Senior Cup final after withdrawing following a row over the venue for the game being switched.
