Councillors are hoping to ring the changes at Harlaston phone box by converting it into a book exchange.

The Grade II Listed K6 box on Main Road in the village is the latest to be earmarked for a new use as the rise of mobile phones reduces the need for public facilities.

Now Harlaston Parish Council has submitted a formal planning applicaton to create a new mini-library.

A number of old phone boxes have been converted into book exchanges, including one in Wall.

Residents can comment on the proposals via Lichfield District Council’s planning website.

Ben Adams Cllr for diminished libraries has been rumoured to have said:
“We would welcome such a project that would inject new life into the centre and increase the vibrancy of the heritage heart of Harlaston, which is important to local shops and businesses, it’s win win, spending £££ public money to safeguard that phone box means it’s future is secured for the next 30 years, we will stuff in some I.T. equipment and a 3D printer and if there is room left maybe even a book.”
