June 11 will see bells ring out across the city at 11am to mark the occasion.

The following day will see a congregational eucharist with hymns at 9am before a service of thanksgiving at 11am.

The day will round up with a ‘big lunch’ on the cathedral lawns, with people invited to enjoy a picnic or food from one of the street stalls at 12.30pm.

The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, said: “This is an historic occasion for our country, and it seems fitting that we should celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday with some memorable services and events here at the cathedral.

“We do hope everyone will come along and take part. Lichfield always enjoys celebrating big national celebrations and the cathedral enjoys playing host to them.”

The festivities will finish at 3pm with a Songs of Praise-style service which will reflect aspects of the nine decades of The Queen’s life, as well as a performance from a mass choir.

Anyone who wants to join the choir can email Cathy Lamb or call 01543 306100 for more details.
