Push karts ready to take on the course in Burntwood

Plans for the new Burntwood Wakes festival will be discussed by councillors today (June 13).

The event is returning to its traditional home at Burntwood Leisure Centre on July 23.

The popular push kart derby will also return on July 16.

Burntwood Town Council is spending £20,000 on the two days this year and will be supported by local organisations and businesses.

Documents due to be discussed at a meeting of the authority’s events committee reveal that World Tae Kwon Do champion Rachel France-Shepherd will lead the procession.

There will also be a display by the Burntwood Tae Kwon Do club in the arena.

Other attractions will include a funfair, assault courses, laser tag, human table football, a bungee run, a surf simulator, a circus entertainer, a Punch and Judy show and an appearance by the Rugely Power Station Brass Band.

Burntwood Breast Care are organising a scarecrow competition while Spark will run a Royal-themed fancy dress contest.
