The World War One battle, which took place between July 1 and November 18 1916, claimed the lives of more than one million soldiers.

The vigil at 9pm on June 30 at the National Memorial Arboretum will mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme.

Entry is free with suggestions of £1 donations for candles. Music and guided walks will also be available from 1pm.
