Planning approval has been granted for the major city centre redevelopment and it has now been confirmed that The Light will operate the new movie theatre.

Keith Pullinger, CEO of The Light, said: “We are very much about creating a community hub where people can meet in a friendly and welcoming environment

“Our auditoria have exceptional digital screens, extra wide luxury seating and are licensed so you can take a drink into the film.

“We’re aiming to offer the people of Lichfield a really premium quality experience at good prices, as well as a wide choice of great films and other onscreen content such as ballet, theatre and music events.”

The Friarsgate scheme is expected to create around 660 jobs and will also feature new shops, restaurants, homes and a gym.

Richard Upton, Deputy CEO of developers U+I, added: “Sustainable communities and the generation of jobs and growth is core to U+I’s approach to mixed-use regeneration, so we’re thrilled that The Light will be joining the Friarsgate development.

“Joining the array of new residential, retail and entertainment facilities Friarsgate has to offer, the cinema will form a key part of this new destination for the city.

“We look forward to announcing further brand partners set to join the scheme in the near future.”

Work on the scheme is expected to start in 2017.

Cllr Mike Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, said: “We’re all really excited about getting a cinema in Lichfield, so the announcement that The Light will be opening a seven-screen cinema is sure to be met with great enthusiasm across the district.”
