Figures have revealed that almost one in ten households in Lichfield and Burntwood are behind on their council tax payments.

A report to a meeting of the Lichfield District Board this week highlighted the fact that 4,338 accounts are in arrears.

Of those, 1,452 households are currently receiving Local Council Tax Support (LCTS).

The figures were released as part of a discussion over the impact of welfare reforms on people across Lichfield and Burntwood.

It had previously been revealed that a new benefits cap would hit an extra 60 families.

But the report to the Lichfield District Forum said there was currently no link between a cap and council tax debts.

“Of the 75 families we are aware of that are or are likely to be affected by the benefit cap, only one household is in arrears.”
