Lichfield microbrewery toasts agreement to sell ales in local supermarkets

A Lichfield microbrewery is raising a glass after agreeing a deal to see its products go on sale at local supermarkets.

Quartz Brewing, in Kings Bromley, will see its ales on offer at Central England Co-operative stores in Lichfield, Barton-under-Needwood and Branston.

Julia and Scott Barnett started the business after deciding to combine their love of the industry.

“Scott and I were discussing how we enjoyed working in the brewing industry, him as an engineer for Bass Brewers and me as a brewer for Carlsberg Tetley,” Julia said. “But then we started to think it would be great if we could pool our knowledge and start our own microbrewery?

“Now all our products are all made from the finest malted barley and great-flavoured hops, to recipes devised by a female master brewer – me!”

The Quartz range includes the light Crystal Ale and the dark Heart Ale.

Julia said she was pleased to see their brews making an impact locally.

“Local producers are a big part of the regional economy,” she said. “Reducing food miles as much as possible is a very good thing as it reduces the distance that the food has to travel before being consumed.”
