Hunt for conmen targeting elderly residents in Lichfield and Burntwood

Police are hunting for conmen who have tricked elderly people out of cash and jewellery in Lichfield, Burntwood and Alrewas.

A number of distraction burglaries have happened in the past week, with the offenders striking at around 9am on each occasion.

The latest incident happened this morning at The Crescent in Burntwood when an elderly man was conned out of a large amount of cash after a man knocked on his door claiming to be from the local council to check his boiler.

The offender demanded £500 and then stole more money once inside the property.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “There may be two men working together – one of the offenders is described as white, with a large build, aged in his 50’s and wearing brown or cream clothes. He may be driving a white Vauxhall Corsa van or a gold Diablo vehicle.”

Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 143 of 14 July.
