Drivers gearing up for three month closure of main route in and out of Lichfield

Drivers are being reminded that they will not be able to use the Burton Road in Streethay for the next three months.

Major sewer improvements and roadworks will start tomorrow (July 25) after being pushed back by a week to coincide with the start of the school holidays.

During the closure, drivers will not be able to leave or join the A38 at Streethay.

A spokesperson for Severn Trent Water said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The road was closed three times in three days after separate accidents last week.

Bus passengers are also facing delays and alterations to services because of the latest roadworks.

Midland Classic say their X12 will go via the A38 and Cappers Lane, with the Lichfield Trent Valley stop not in operation. The service will not call at Boley Park either.

The 810 service will divert from Fradley via Wood End Lane and enter Lichfield via the A515.

Looking forward to some peace and quiet from the relentless traffic for a few weeks. No Tesco, Amazon etc. lorries banging along and the speeding cars having scant regard for the 30 limit. Pity those on the diversionary route and any rat runs that will inevitably used e.g Curborough. Accidents waiting to happen?

No doubt there’ll also be some chancers who think they can get through in the first few days.

It is an A road you know, not a side road. Any lorries which usually use the route will end up going all over the place because of the the low bridges in Lichfield.

You’d have thought the Ambulance service would know better.. Flashing blues up and back!

I have just had the misfortune to visit Lichfield from Burton on Trent today. The Severn Trent diversion is totally unacceptable but worse was to come on the return journey, a 15minute drive taking 45 minutes! I like visiting Lichfield for shopping because it is easy to get to, I won’t be doing so again whilst diversion is on, I hope the traders are prepared for the knock on effect. I would also point out that the diversion signs are too small, not enough of them and badly placed with no mention that it is the alternative route to Burton and Derby. I feel sorry for the people that will have to do this every day for 16 weeks.
