Groups in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to apply for a share of £125,000 set aside to support former mining towns and villages.

The money has been made available by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust as part of its Coalfields Community Investment Programme.

The scheme has already served up £250,000 to initiatives which support skills and employment. The latest round of funding is designed to support projects which demonstrate how they will make a lasting impact on the health of local communities.

Funding of up to £10,000 per application is available.

Andy Lock, from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, said: “The Coalfields Community Investment Programme provides community organisations with the opportunity to help us meet our objectives and to make a real difference to the lives and future prosperity of our communities.

“All applications from July will focus on health. We know that this is an ongoing problem within the communities, not least because 11.7% of people living in the coalfields report long-term health problems compared to 8.6% nationally.”

The deadline for applications is September 16. For more details visit the trust’s website.

Seems to be no shortage of money sloshing around in these austere times.

Did you write that all by yourself? If so I’m flattered.
Good of you to wait for me before you contributed nevertheless.
Anyone seen jennyscientist lately, she’s gone very quiet?
