Martha Reeves

Motown legends Martha Reeves and the Vandellas will visit Lichfield to perform in a charity concert in aid of 17-month-old Isla Elizabeth Hufton.

The youngster was born with Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome, a progressive disease which causes debilitating physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities.

In March Isla’s parents, Stephanie and Josh, were given the news that their daughter had only months to live and is not expected to survive until her second birthday.

Now a concert in her name at Lichfield Rugby Club on August 14 will raise money for The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, Newlife, Promise Dreams and Be Brave Bears.

Grammy-nominated Martha and her sisters Lois and Delphine will fly in for Detroit for the show with a full band and brass section in tow to perform their iconic hits such as Dancing in the Street, Heat Wave and Jimmy Mack.

They will be joined on the bill by Lichfield’s own Tony Christie.

Isla’s mum Stephanie said: “At the moment we’re enjoying every second together as a family. While Isla is living and happy, we are happy. There’s no point in crying as we can have cuddles and kisses anytime and can protect and comfort her whenever she needs.

“Isla loves her sister Lily – the love they have for each other is priceless to see. We are very lucky to have them and to have such an amazing supportive family and friends. Isla is extremely loved and touches everyone’s heart.

“This is why we want to raise awareness of Isla’s condition and say a huge thank you to the charities that have helped us.”

The event will run from 5pm to 10pm and other acts will include tribute band The Beatless, Keshia and Joe Crookall.

Lee O’Hanlon, from organisers tinyCOW, said: “We are thrilled to be able to make this show happen for Isla and her parents.

“As a parent myself, I was touched when I heard little Isla’s story and wanted to help – and what better way than to put on a fantastic and intimate concert including legends like Martha Reeves.

“As soon as I told Tony Christie about Isla he immediately offered to perform for free. Every penny of profit is going to support Isla and her family and the charities helping them.”

Tickets are priced at £30 for adults and £10 for under 12s. To book visit tinyCOWtickets.co.uk.
