The Nether Stowe student is a member of the British Cycling team and has been tipped as a future Olympian after landing two bronze medals in the european Championships.

But despite her sport taking her around the world for competitions, Sophie has still managed to secure strong grades.

“I am exceedingly happy,” she said. “I really didn’t think this would happen as it is really tricky to manage work and training. I have to be super organised.

“The staff at Nether Stowe have been a massive help. I couldn’t do this without the understanding of the teachers and their help and support.”

The full A-Level results also saw success as all students hoping to go to university landed themselves a place.

Head teacher Ruth Poppleton said: “I am really pleased with the results, which in many subjects are up on last year, despite changes to the qualifications designed to make them harder.

“There were some fantastic individual achievements with Tara Best gaining 3 A grades in chemistry, geography and maths, Natalie Bialasinska gaining an A in Polish, a distinction* in health and social care and high grades in psychology and economics.

“Other high achieving students at A level were Rebecca Hutchings, Matthew Lovell and Leika Nell.”
