An office building in Lichfield city centre could be demolished to make way for new apartments.

Developers hope to put 27 homes and a commercial unit where Beaconsfield House currently stands on Sandford Street.

The former office building has also been used as a fitness facility in the past.

But now the developers hope to transform what they describe as a “gateway location” into the city.

In a statement supporting the application they said attempts to sell the building in its current office form had been unsuccessful.

“The scheme will provide a high quality development which will replace an existing building which is of a very low quality,” the developers added. “The scheme provides for high quality living accomodation adjoining the city centre which will meet an established need for new residential development both locally and nationally.”

Full details of the proposals can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
