Lichfield Operatic Society will present the well-loved Broadway classic Guys and Dolls at the Garrick.

The toe-tapping musical first premiered on Broadway in 1950 and went on to be nominated for five Tony Awards, winning Best Musical.

Sixty-six years on and the musical shows no signs of being put into retirement as it continues to be performed by professionals and amateurs alike around the world.

Set against a backdrop of 1950s Broadway, Guys and Dolls tells the romantic tale of the unlikeliest of Manhattan pairings. We follow Sky Masterson in his pursuit of the Salvation Army Sergeant, Sarah Brown, whilst show girl, Miss Adelaide, longs to get fiancée of 14 years, Nathan Detroit, to the altar.

Taking on the roles of Miss Adelaide and Sarah Brown are Vickie Beck and Charlotte Middleton alongside long-time members Pete Beck as Sky Masterson and James Pugh as Nathan Detroit.

At the helm of the production is one of Lichfield Operatic Society’s regular directors and member of 17 years, Julie Mallaband.

Julie is thrilled to be directing this very happy show and having played both Sarah and Adelaide in the past, it is a production that is very dear to her.

She said: “I have the most talented cast and we are having a great deal of fun putting it together.

“I am delighted to be working alongside Jessica Lambert as choreographer again and am thoroughly enjoying the company of Mark Timms as musical director.”

The company aims to have audiences leaving the theatre with a smiles on their faces after a glorious evening featuring some of Broadway’s greatest show-stopping tunes, including Luck be a Lady, Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat, My Time of Day and of course the exuberant title number Guys and Dolls.

The show runs from October 11 to 15 at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets can be booked from the Lichfield Garrick box office on 01543 412121 or online.
