Chance to apply for spot in the 2017 Ironman Staffordshire race

The registration window for places in the 2017 Staffordshire Ironman race has opened.

The event – which features a swim Chasewater, a bike ride through villages surrounding Lichfield and a run at Shugborough – will return for a third year on June 17.

The first two years saw places sell out and the event has proved a sell-out success and organisers are expecting a repeat in 2017.

Cllr Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for economic growth, said: “Ironman is not just fantastic for competitors, but for the whole county and this year we will be really encouraging residents, businesses and schools to play an even greater role in making it an even bigger success story.”

More details on booking a spot are available online.

Kevin Stewart, managing director of Ironman UK & Ireland, said: “We get so much great feedback from athletes about their experience in Staffordshire that I am sure many people will be keen to return once again.

“Places are limited and when they are gone they are gone, so we would encourage anyone wanting to take on the Ironman challenge to sign up as soon as possible.”
