Chasetown made a dream start with a goal after just two minutes. The move involved about a dozen passes before Josh Ruff slid the ball to Mitch Piggon who fired into the roof of the net.

Piggon then had a goal ruled out for offside before Grantham levelled in the 15th minute. Dan Meadows shot from the edge of the box and the ball squirmed under goalkeeper John Bateman.

Chasetown took control again and Paul Sullivan beat keeper Jake Turner but saw his effort rebound off the crossbar.

Danny Durkin tested Bateman from long range just after the half hour and repeated the dose two minutes later with the home keeper making a spectacular save to his left.

On the stroke of half time, Nathan Rooney teed up Jack Langston and Turner made a point blank save to deny the midfielder.

Grantham were a whisker away from the lead in the opening minutes of the second half. A downward header from Durkin was clawed off the line by Bateman.

Midfields took over for a while before sub Ryan Wynter headed over the crossbar from Rooney’s corner.

Neither side could fashion out a winner though, in a second half that didn’t live up to the first.
