Chasetown FC win dramatic FA Cup tie against Grantham Town on penalties

Chasetown FC’s dreams of another money-spinning FA Cup run are still alive after a dramatic win against Grantham Town.

The Scholars twice came from behind in the replay before securing a clash with Bedworth United in the next round on penalties.

Lee Shaw had put the hosts in front in the first half, only for Mitch Piggon to bring Chasetown level in the second period with a powerful strike.

Former Scholar Grant Ryan put his side back in front only for Piggon to net once more in the dying moments.

Neither side could be separated in extra time, meaning penalties would be needed to split the teams after more than 180 minutes of action.

Chasetown netted six in a row as the spot kicks went to sudden death. Keeper John Bateman became the hero has he threw himself to his right to get a strong hand to Danny Durkin’s effort and send the Scholars through.
