After a shock first defeat of the season in the Midland Football League Division One at Coventry Copsewood last time it, boss Dave Langston was looking for an improvement from his side.

He duly got it as City came out of the traps with real intent as Luke Chapman capped a neat move to produce a sublime chip post the visiting keeper with just two minutes on the clock.

Pershore’s back line were clearly unsettled by Lichfield’s early start and on eight minutes played they were two behind after a trip in the box allowed Chapman to double his tally.

Daniel Griffiths went close to adding a third as City dominated the opening proceedings.

But as the half wore on Pershore began to find their feet with Amrick Virdee forced to make a smart save as the visitors recorded their first meaningful effort after half an hour.

Lichfield’s early dominance began to desert them and boss Langston will have been pleased to see his side go in without conceding at the break.

The second half turned out to be a much quieter affair at both ends until the introduction of City sub Morgan Hurley who collected a ball in the channel with his first touch before jinking into the box, rounding the keeper and slotting home past defenders on the line to seal the victory.

Lichfield are back in action tomorrow when they entertain Warstones in the JW Hunt Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.
