Lichfield City FC have been knocked off the top of the table after a heavy defeat at Leicester Road.
Dave Langston’s men saw Bromsgrove Sporting leapfrog them at the summit of the Midland Football League Division One after a disappointing afternoon.
City got a taste of things to come with just a quarter of an hour not he clock when a quick throw-in caught them napping and Joe Lyne headed home to give the hosts the lead.
The setback seemed to spark Lichfield into life and Ben Lund was only denied an equaliser by a smart save from keeper Ricky Blewitt.
At the other end, Amrick Virdee had to be alert to prevent Alex Kent from doubling Leicester Road’s lead.
But City’s respite was only temporary as Greg Downes rifled home to double his side’s lead.
Joshua Haston went close to giving Lichfield a route back into the game early in the second half, but found home stopper Blewitt in fine form.
City’s hopes of gaining a foothold were dashed though when Richard Deavall’s poor challenge saw a penalty awarded and Nick Hawkins calmly slotted home.
Things showed no sign of getting better for the visitors as they conceded a fourth on 69 minutes when a counter-attack allowed Lyne to net his second of the game.
Lewis Bourne did manage to get Lichfield on the scoresheet with ten minutes to go, but it was nothing more than a consolation.
