Firefighters have spent the night battling a blaze at a barn in Yoxall.
Crews from Lichfield, Burton, Rugeley, Abbotts Bromley, Barton-under-Needwood and Cannock were called to the incident on Wood Lane at 2pm yesterday (October 19).
Lichfield Station Manager Rob Hortonsaid: “The fire was quite severe due to the fact that there were two tractors involved as well as approximately 100 tonnes of straw which were well alight.
“We believe that the incident originated from a fault in the engine compartment of the tractor, the blaze then spread to the straw and on to another tractor at the opposite end of the barn.
“We would urge farmers not to store tractors and other such vehicles in barns as, unfortunately, this type of situation can easily occur.
“Luckily no people or animals were harmed as a result of this incident but the consequences to the farmer are still devastating as he has lost his main working tractor and the second vehicle that was awaiting repair has also been destroyed.”
Crews eventually left the scene just before 9am today.
