Lichfield City FC kept up the pressure on the front-runners with a 1-0 win at Nuneaton Griff.

The win leaves Dave Langston’s men in third place in the Midland Football League Division One, level on points with Leicester Road and two points adrift of leaders Bromsgrove Sporting.

Despite a sluggish start to the game at Nuneaton, City fashioned the first real chance of note as Joshua Haston’s strike was deflected wide.

And Lichfield really hit their stride, breaking the deadlock when Ben Lund kept a cool head to slot home.

Luke Chapman was next to go close, before Haston also had an effort saved.

Nuneaton sent an strike narrowly wide as they ensured Lichfield’s backline remained on their toes in an even opening period.

The hosts continued to push for a leveller in the second half, but saw a number of attacks thwarted, with Amrick Virdee on hand to tip over.

But Lichfield hung on as Nuneaton pressed late in the second half to record a welcome three points on the road.
