Formal plans submitted for new coach park in Lichfield city centre

Plans for a new coach parking facility in Lichfield have been submitted.

The Friarsgate development will see existing spaces at the city’s bus station disappear.

A new site at the Staffordshire University and South Staffordshire College campus had been discussed by councillors last month.

Now a formal planning application has been submitted to Lichfield District Council.

The new facility would feature six coach parking bays and 81 car parking spaces.

A statement supporting the application said: “Currently Lichfield has a limited provision for coach parking and this is going to intensify when the new Friarsgate bus station and its new operations are built, which will not accommodate the required coach provision or ability for overnight coach stops.

“Secondly, there is a growth demand for more coach parking facilities to meet Lichfield District Council’s aspirations for increasing overnight accommodation for longer tourist stay revenue.”

Full details of the proposal can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
