Police have moved quickly to find two lorries stolen in Lichfield.

The two HGVs were taken from a compound in Shenstone at around 12.30am today (January 13). One of the vehicles had been loaded with alcohol and the other with toys.

Officers used tracker information from the vehicles and the support of the police helicopter to find one of the HGVs in Walsall. After a pursuit, it crashed and the driver ran off.

The suspect was found nearby and a 37-year-old man remains in police custody on suspicion of theft and dangerous driving.

The second stolen HGV was found abandoned near the compound in Shenstone.

Sgt Kevin Royce, of Lichfield District Local Policing Team, said: “This incident highlights the quick thinking and coordination of officers by our Area Control Room.

“Thanks to the excellent team work an arrest was made within 20 minutes of the theft occurring and all of the stolen property was recovered.

“The HGVs involved have all been recovered so that forensic examinations can be carried out.”
