Love will be in the air on a Valentine’s walking tour of Lichfield.

Organised by Visit Lichfield, the event at 2pm on February 5 will be a chance to hear about the romantic lives of some of the city’s residents of yesteryear.

There will be the chance to learn of Patience Williams, a servant girl who married into grandeur, Mrs Thrale and her Italian musician, David Garrick and his Viennese opera singer, and George Farquhar and his scheming wife.

The 90-minute tour finishes with a cream tea at Erasmus Darwin House.

Councillor Helen Fisher, Cabinet member for tourism at Lichfield District Council, said: “Lichfield has been home to many fascinating characters over the years, and finding out more about their colourful love lives is a novel way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, whether you go as a couple, with friends or on your own.”

The tour costs £7.25. To book, visit Tourist Information at St Mary’s in the Market Square or call 01543 256611.
