More than 90% of entries have now been taken for the event on June 18 which sees athletes take on a swim at Chasewater, a cycle through Cannock Chase and a run to the finish line at Shugborough – the last time it will do so as the course changes for 2018.

Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for economic growth, Cllr Mark Winnington, said they expected all of the places to be taken sooner rather than later.

“Staffordshire as a county provides a spectacular backdrop for the event and nowhere more so than the Shugborough Estate,” he said. “While Ironman will be continuing in the county, this will be the last chance for people to sign up to cross the finishing line at Shugborough.

“For anyone who is thinking about signing up but hasn’t yet done so, I’d urge them to book their place while there are still some available.”
