The Liberal Democrats say the Conservatives have let down local people over new housing.

The party say not enough has been done in terms of creating affordable homes and infrastructure to support new developments.

A spokesman for Lib Dems in Lichfield and Burntwood said the issues would be top of the agenda ahead of the Staffordshire County Council elections on May 4.

“We actively campaign for more affordable housing in Lichfield and Burntwood,” he said. “The local plan says that the affordable housing requirement is 700 homes each year. Yet last year 32 affordable homes built in the Lichfield district.

“That is a shameful Conservative record.”

The Lib Dems have also accused the Tories of failing to ensure the sustainability of local areas where wider housing projects are approved.

The party’s spokesman added: “New developments need new services – schools, GP surgeries and roads. This is where the Conservative-controlled Staffordshire County Council has been letting us down.”

The only people to bother to deliver any election leaflets to me, have been the Lib Dems and the Conservatives.

Very disappointing.

Yeah, but you say you’ll deliver affordable housing, but once you get in power…

Anyhoo this is a huge issue and one that cannot be solved at local level. You need to stop any Conservative government extending right to buy, otherwise you’re fuelling landlord housing stock.
