Former chairman critical of plan to create gallery of ex-civic leaders at Burntwood Town Council offices

A former chairman of Burntwood Town Council says he doesn’t want a photograph of himself to replace local artworks.

Plans have been drawn up to create a gallery of former chairmen at the offices of the council in the Old Mining College Centre.

New leader Cllr Norma Bacon has proposed the new gallery along the staircase in the building.

But former Labour chairman Steve Norman insists the new collection of images isn’t needed.

“I don’t want my picture to replace the local artworks adorning the corridors of the Old Mining College Centre, thank you,” he said.

“After being Mayor, Sheriff, Chairman etc of councils in Lichfield, Cllr Bacon must be missing the regalia she is used to.”

Cllr Bacon has also urged the council to install a new £1,000 noticeboard outside the Old Mining College Centre.

However, Mr Norman has also questioned the use for such a facility.

“If she does win her way with another noticeboard then it will need the note of councillors’ surgeries on there so residents know where to see their Labour representatives, as they are the only party that give this service in Burntwood.”

Well done councillor Norman and as you have observed it is all about being noticed for some people and not for what they do in the community.
