Gang use stolen digger in bid to steal Kings Bromley cash machine

A gang has used a stolen digger to try and steal a cash machine in Kings Bromley.

The raiders struck at 3.10am today (August 2) at the Co-op store on Lichfield Road.

The masked gang were disturbed by police officers and escaped in a number of waiting vehicles.

DS Michelle Banks, from Staffordshire Police, said: “This is a serious crime resulting in substantial criminal damage to a property.

“Fortunately, the perpetrators were unsuccessful with their intended goal as the cash machine remains in situ and no money was stolen.

“Our officers remain at the scene and an investigation is on-going. If you witnessed these events or have any information that could assist us with our inquires, then please call us on 101 quoting incident number 60 of 2 August.”

The JCB – which was stolen from a farm in Derbyshire – was abandoned at the scene and is being forensically examined.

Structural engineers are currently carrying out investigations on the building which suffered damage during the raid.
