The polls have opened in the Chadsmead by-election.

Voters will be able to vote for candidates to represent them on Lichfield City Council and Lichfield District Council.

The seats became vacant following the resignation of the Liberal Democrat councillor Marion Bland due to ill-health.

The candidates standing for the district council by-election are:

  • Colin Ball (Labour)
  • Adam Elsdon (Greens)
  • Jan Higgins (UKIP)
  • Brian McMullan (Conservatives)
  • Paul Ray (Lib Dem)

The four candidates contesting the vacant Lichfield City Council seat are:

  • Adam Elsdon (Greens)
  • Simran McMullan (Conservatives)
  • Paul Ray (Lib Dem)
  • Phil Sutcliffe (Labour)

Polling stations will be open until 10pm.

I suppose the downside of Labour getting leaflets out early means that others copy them.
For instance I wish we had mentioned that there is already a Conservative Councillor representing Chadsmead Ward (voters looked blankly at me when I was saying this earlier today) as then the Conservative candidate might have mentioned her in his own leaflet.
The LibDems are even worse though – they lost £444,000 when copying our figure (of £25.444m) for how much the now cash-strapped Lichfield District Council inherited from us when we were in control of the District Council’s finances.
